Happy Monday you guys! Well its actually my Tuesday but I was in the middle of night shifts and forgot to post. Luckily I am one day ahead of half the world!
K'gari, formally known as Fraser Island. The name has recently changed back to the original Native name! K'gari means paradise. And Fraser Island is not far off from paradise.
Getting to K'gari is fairly easy. From Brisbane it is a short six hour drive! Yes, Australia is huge, looks small on the map, but don't let this fool you! You will need to do a tour, or rent your own 4WD. Fraser Island is the largest sand island and has no true roads. You will need a 4WD because the roads are sand! K'gari tours can pick you up anywhere along the Sunshine Coast. If you do not already own a 4WD you can easily rent on anywhere. If you are drinking yourself you will need to pay attention to the tides, you can easily get sick when it is high tide. Also there is some proper gear you will need if you happen to get stuck in the sand, like boards and things like that.
I choose to go with a tour to be on the safer side. Even though I feel like this old farm girl could have easily done it. I have experience with mud and snow! But actually sand s no joke and the tides just add some extra challenges. You catch a barge at Rainbow beach and get across this way. Prior to leaving you will need a permit, and on your permit you need to put where you are camping. Now, there are plenty of places to camp on the island. You have endless beach options, or you can camp are a few dingos safe camps. There are even some rental houses you can get! People do live on the island!
Short and sweet history lesson: The Butchulla people are the Indigenous people of the island. There was about six different clans across the island, as you can see when you drive the island. Europeans came over caused many conflicts and destroyed the land by clearing it for logging and agriculture. This in turn had disturbed the food cycle and hunting had to be altered.
Because K'gari is essentially a beach you have so many options for activities! Watch the sunrise, from anywhere! Sunrises here are amazing and often remind me of home. I know what your thinking, sunrise means getting up early. Well the sun goes down at 6pm, so you will become a morning person weather you like it or not!
The famous 75 mile beach- Drive it. Its magnificent in scale and the amount of people along here camping and fishing is refreshing to see! Watching and listening to the waves crash is so relaxing. I promise you will get addicted to sand driving after this. 75 mile beach is the gate way to many other actives on the island. But remember to drive in low tide. And make sure to watch out for a local favourite, DINGOS!!

Eli Creek, is a stop along the beach, its a nice little place to stop and walk down the creek. Since the ocean here is a bit dangerous with huge crashing waves and sharks is best to stick to these natural swimming holes. The water is incredibly clear, apparently the sand acts as a natural filter and the water has been filtered for over 100 years. You don't get any more pure then that!
Maheno Shipwreck was originally a medical ship used in WWI. In 1935 a cyclone had interrupted the ship being towed by Japan and had washed up on K'gari. This ship is picture perfect at anytime of day. Even go in the water and see all the little fishies that are making the ship home.

Lake Mckenzie is an incredible white sand, blue water spot located in the middle on the island. The water is said to keep you young, so make sure you go for a swim and let that water sink deep into your soul! The sand here acts as a filter and the water is so pure very little life can live here. This is a lovely little stop, spend the day here, facilities even exist at this site, AKA don't pee in the pure water!

There are plenty of hikes along the island, one of these hikes on walking on sand dunes. Duh, the whole island is sand not sure why I was surprised by this. After a hot midday hike up and down sand dunes you are let to a majestic green coloured lake, called Lake Wabby. Lake Wabby is barrage lake, meaning that evening the surrounding sand will blow into the lake and covering it whole. Meaning Lake Wabby will be a thing of the past. So make sure to check out this emerald green water before its too late.

I hope you enjoyed tagging long- Again if you want to stay up to date on adventures, check out and follow my instagram!
